Speaker: Jan Beesley
Jan has been working as a Registered Nurse in various fields of nursing for 33 years. She has worked in hospitals as a staff nurse on surgical, obstetric, and medical floors. She has worked in community health as well as worked in a physician’s office. She came to the Board in 2001 and worked for 4 years as a Nurse Advisor in Abbotsford. At that time, she commenced further education in occupational health nursing and has graduated with her certificate in Occupational Health Nursing. In 2005, she became Provincial Manager of Nursing Services at WorkSafeBC. She was on the design team for the new business process that the Board launched in April 2006 called Dual Stream– the process whereby nurses are working with the employer, worker, physician and health care provider early in the life of the claim. Once the injury has occurred the claim is routed to the nurse to commence return to work or recovery planning
The Nursing department has grown from 21 nurses to over 75 nurses in the past 5 years. Jan has worked closely with employers assisting them with disability management as well as educating physicians on the importance of timely and safe return to work. She is passionate about her work and enjoys working with the employers. She has presented at various employers conferences across the province.
